Shore Excursions/Panama Canal Cruise, Westerdam, departing San Diego 12/8/17

Holland America Line - boards.cruisecritic.com
My wife and I shy away from the cruise arranged shore excursions. I'm researching companies that offer shore excursions, usually at a lower price then what the cruise lines charge. While we enjoy the sights, my wife likes to shop and browse the local markets and stores. Many times, we skip the shore excursions and just wonder around the town. However, we have also enjoyed arranging a tour guide for the shore stop and having a personal tour and experience. Additionally, we enjoy snorkeling. We are in our mid 60's with no health restrictions. We have visited plenty of cathedrals in past trips but are open to any Aztec ruins. We enjoy meeting others and come with a fun card game, if anyone is interested in getting together on the cruise as well as if we can agree on shore excursions. I'm finding some excursions reduce the per person cost if there are more participants. Anyone interested? Anyone out there?
