Problems with Princess Vacation Protection

Princess Cruises - boards.cruisecritic.com
I've just had to cancel a Princess transatlantic cruise because of my mother's illness. I have platinum coverage. I just wanted to have my fare credited for a future cruise. Princess says the only way to proceed is to file a claim with the insurance carrier. This seems cumbersome. Has anyone had experience with this process? Is there anyway to get around this process when one is only requesting a future credit rather than cash? I'm not wanting to go through the process of medical verfication. I guess I naively thought that that the cancel for any reason coverage would be simple to invoke.
