Belarussian News Thread. Belarus Maidan?

Europe Forum - Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions - City-Data Forum - www.city-data.com
This last week there have been some disturbances in Minsk Belarus. I wanted to start a thread for people who have an interest in the country to collect information on current events and have their voices heard. Depending on how you look at it there's good and bad.

Personally I think Alexander Lukashenko (Batya) , the "president" is a prick but on the other hand he and his people do a decent job of running the country. It's stable and people can live their lives in peace. The countries main problems stem from forces not so much the governments faults but from forces outside seeking to harm the country by various means. Belarussian expats and foreign NGOs have been active again apparently. I've got mixed feelings, Belarus does need some new leadership but not at the expense of the people which I am almost certain are going to suffer if this Maidan thing is pulled off again there.

Anyway lets see what develops.

Somebody also tried to crash the border with weapons in their vehicle. I think the Maidanists from Ukraine are quite capable and inclined to do something this stupid. There were people killing at Maidan Square in Kiev.
