Possibly moving to Cape Cod in a year to a year and a half

Massachusetts Forum - Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions - City-Data Forum - www.city-data.com
Hi all. I am a single 35 year old male. I currently live in Sarasota FL (Trump country), my parents right now live in the foothills of Northern California. My mom is originally from MA, so am I. I grew up around Lowell. I hardly ever went to the cape outside of a few visits in the summer maybe or when my dad went there to pick up the seafood specials and get a hotel or something. So I know nothing about living down the cape.

My mom and stepdad could be moving to the Cape themselves as its a compromise as my stepdad doesn't want other locations my mom looked at on the east coast like Northern Virginia or even Upstate NY in Plattsburgh area where some of my family lives. My stepdad sees it as a compromise but he still doesn't 100% want to go. Just moreso than anywhere else my mom looked at on the east coast so I have questions.

For starters, how would a 37 yr old male do down there for dating or jobs? I'd imagine lesser. I see the Cape as a retirement place more and less for living, but maybe more for long term living than Florida is. It may be better for me, but it may not be I don't know. How do some of those communities down there deal with newcomers? I would imagine its more a liberal voter base too, even in Barnstable area where they're thinking of going. My stepdad has a friend there, but for the most part, people live their own lives and my stepdad realizes my mom can get off on tangents with how she sees things.

My concern is most of my family in the NE is dying and even the people she wants to live near like a few friends of hers are also on their last legs too.. They for sure aren't getting any younger, have their health issues and are also bogged down with their family living with them and their expenses..

From everyone who asked for advice in here, would this be a mistake or could it work? Then as I get more responses, I will reply and tell more also. I am on disability, I haven't worked for awhile. I would save money living on my parents property anyhow no matter where they move to. But yea my stepdad is a west coast or Oregon/WA guy as he moved there from Boston when he was a lot younger and got used to the west coast. He doesn't want to do this really, but he does more than say TN or Norther Virginia. Its a compromise like I said. So whats your advice for someone like me or them? A single vs a near retired couple starting somewhere new. His job connections now are in the Seattle area primarily and he wants to go there the most. I also would if it was best for everyone and me.
