Help! Duke won't start power for new resident

North Carolina Forum - Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions - City-Data Forum - www.city-data.com
Hi everyone, I was supposed to be moving into my new home last week. And when i called to have the utilities changed to my name everything was fine, until i called Duke energy. They asked me if i i ever had service with them before and i said no and then i gave them my info and new address and they said that before i could put power on, i need to send them the lease agreement and the previous owner has to send them a bill of where they're now residing, and then they will put it on.. the previous owner sent them them a copy of an letter from their bank with their new address and duke says nope that's not good enough. This has been going on for a week, i am stuck paying money everyday in a hotel, and also paying storage for all my furniture because duke won't start my power, all because of the previous resident, and that has nothing to do with me.. if anyone can please help or offer some advice, i would greatly appreciate it..i just want to move into my home.
