Eurail vs RailEurope vs individual train tickets

My boyfriend and I have a two month backpacking trip in Europe planned starting mid-June. We are having trouble deciding on what to do for our train travel. We have all of our cities planned out, hostels/hotels booked, and know which days we want to take the train and to which city so there isn't much room for flexibility there. Our trip includes 20 different cities and 11 different countries so if we were to get a rail pass it would be the 15 days in 2 months. Initially we were thinking the Eurail or RailEurope would be cheaper but now we are finding there are some ridiculous reservation fees for the high-speed trains. Does anybody have any recommendations on Eurail vs RailEurope, or buying individual train tickets? Which would be easiest and cheapest for our trip?
