Multi-country rail pass vs. individual ticket purchase
I can't decide if I should purchase a euro rail pass vs. individual train tickets for an upcoming trip.
I originally thought buying a pass seemed expensive. My estimate for a Rail Europe pass was ~$550.00 USD. However, now that I'm researching individual tickets it seems the travel legs could add up fast, with $100.00 here and there for various travel legs. I'm using Trainline Europe primarily to estimate individual ticket purchases.
I will be traveling through the countries listed below.
If I do get a pass, should I be concerned that it may not cover the cost of some regional stations that I will have to transfer through? I can't quite make sense of that part. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated.
Leg 1: Frankfurt to Colmar (potential stop in Strasbourg)
Leg 2: Zermatt to Milano
Leg 3: Milano to Asti
Leg 4: Asti to Monterosso
Leg 5: Monterosso to Rome
(all one way)
