Sunwing vs Transat vs Westjet

Air Travel Forum - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
There are some older threads on this topic but I was wondering if time has improved any of these airlines.

Planning a vacation package to Cancun in April or May. Choices are Air Canada, Westjet, Sunwing, Signature, and Transat.

I'm familiar with westjet and aircanada (I travel once every couple of weeks for work). Unfortunately, westjet and Air Canada have very little direct flights or even flights at decent times to Cancun from Edmonton; they're mainly overnight or at times where you end up losing a day at either end, which is a waste of our vacation time. It's not even a matter of paying more - they simply don't have that option on many days in April and May.

Was going to book Sunwing, which does have direct flights but then read so many bad reviews online and also heard about it from a few friends. Constant delays, rerouting to random places due to "sudden" mechanical problems, and sudden addition of a stop, which basically makes a direct flight pointless.

Is it really that bad? I wasn't sure if it was just more people complain online than say good things, or if I should avoid them completely and just take longer flights on westjet. I don't care about free food or booze that Sunwing apparently gives. I only care about the reliability of their posted flights.

Thank you!
