Flying with Emirates & Qantas on separate bookings

Air Travel Forum - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
We are looking at travelling from Barcelona to Melbourne (Australia) in October, transiting in Dubai. The flight from Barcelona to Dubai would be operated by Emirates and from Dubai to Melbourne by Qantas. I would be booking one of the flights as an award booking and the other paid, so they will be on different tickets. Does anyone know whether Emirates will be able/willing to issue a boarding pass for the Dubai - Melbourne flight when we check-in in Barcelona and check our bags all the way through? Trying to figure out what is the minimum connection time that I can get away with.
