Question about the personal item on Ryanair?

Air Travel Forum - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
Hi everyone,

I tried searching for this question, but couldn't find any answers to my specific question.

For those of you who have flown with Ryanair (I'll be flying out of Barajas airport in Madrid, Spain) - I know sometimes they strictly enforce the size of the personal item (35 x 20 x 20 cm). My question is, do they typically just see if it fits into the thing/display they have? (here's an image: Or do they actually measure your bags? I have a little backpack that is a few centimeters too wide, and just 2cm over the max length, but since it's soft fabric I'm sure it would fit into the display I've seen. If they actually measure bags, however, then I know I'll have to search for something else or buy another bag asap.

Thank you in advance for your help!
