Unassigned seats in Iberia Airlines Boston - Madrid

Air Travel Forum - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
The past discussion on unassigned seats focused on short haul routes. Currently, all seats on Iberia Boston-Madrid are unassigned unless you are willing to pay $40 extra for the privilege, and only when booking directly with Iberia. I was willing to pay the extra but Iberia.com has twice in 2 weeks failed to finalize my credit card transaction and "lost" the reservation after 4 days.

At this point I would really like to book the flights (only non-stop ) with a codeshare airline (AA or BI) but I wouldn't be able to reserve seats. I am flying with my husband and would like to have 2 seats together. Any experience with this?
