London to Holyhead

London Forum, Travel Discussion for London - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
My son and I will be travelling in mid August (he is 24 I am 49). I am not an experienced traveler, and am trying to fit a few extras into my "trip of a lifetime". We are flying into London, and then moving on to Ireland. My question: What is the best way to get from London to Holyhead to catch the ferry to Dublin. We know that there are other, quicker ways to get to Dublin, however, we are more about scenery, and adventure vs just getting from place to place. Should we rent a car? Is there a bus? and on the rental car...would love to hear your opinions on the best route to a rental car while in UK and Ireland for that matter. The online reviews have not been helpful. It seems the only people who review are those who are angry, so based on reviews, there isn't a reliable rental agency in all of Europe :). I appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond. Thank you in advance.
