Advice for solo 20-somethinng traveler in London for 1 day

London Forum, Travel Discussion for London - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
Hi all!

I'm going to be in London on Monday, April 9th (by 10:30am via train) and stay overnight until later in the day on Tuesday the 10th. I'll be coming off a 9 day trip throughout Ireland and a stop in Nottingham to visit a friend, so will be a little tired of sightseeing and ready to just stroll around, hop into shops, galleries, eat yummy food, that sort of thing (unless I realize there's something else bigger I need to see!). This is my first time in London all alone - I've been multiple times but mainly to see the main attractions and only once overnight.

My questions:

1. Where should I stay? I'm looking for something pretty or design-y without being crazy expensive. No clue what part of the city to stay in honestly. I'm thinking Shoreditch because I haven't been there yet and heard it can be cool. Any other ideas for a young solo traveler?

2. What's the best way to get to the airport (LHR) without spending a ton of money and without being too complicated?

Thanks in advance!
