Honeymooners TR day 8- IOA and Cabana Bay
So I am lying on my bed at Cabana Bay, on the 11th floor of the new Beachside tower with the most stunning panoramic view you can imagine of Volcano Bay all lit up in the dark through the floor to ceiling windows. Yep we got upgraded again, and I literally can't get enough of this view. Universal is utterly spoiling us.
But to back track, we only had one night at the Royal Pacific so we took advantage of our free upgrade to club level to have free breakfast in the club lounge. There was a nice spread, toast, cereals, pastries, coffee, juice, fruit etc. Also a pancake machine yum. Then we checked out, and thanks to another TR on here I knew they could transfer our luggage to Cabana Bay where we are for the next 3 nights. Then off to Universal in the water taxi! I miss the water taxi already.
We started by meeting Optimus Prime and getting a pic, but the main aim was Diagon Alley. Spent a couple of hours exploring, riding Gringotts and complaining about how expensive all the merchandise is. I really think it's ridiculous to be charging $25 for a small notebook. But people seem to pay it, so I guess they're gonna charge it. Then we took the Hogwarts express to IOA, so we are doing the opposite of what we did yesterday. Went straight on the Hulk which I really didn't enjoy as it rattled me around and bashed my head on the seat. Then Spiderman followed by meeting Spidey himself. Hubby is a comic book geek and absolutley loved the Marvel area. I indulged him by pretending to listen while he told me the names of every character we saw.
Lunchtime and we walked to Thunder Falls terrace in Jurassic Park. Shared a ribs and chicken meal. How that is supposed to feed one person I just don't know. We struggled between us. Also got a brookie which was yum. It was $21 for both. I also had a lemon and strawberry slush from a cart which was huge and cost $4. It was hot today so the slush was appreciated, however it wasn't nearly as hot as the day we went to Busch Gardens.
Went for a walk around Jurassic Park and checked out the Discovery center. I have a confession that I am a massive JP fan. Absolutley obsessed. I also have a confession I spent $105 in the JP store. I regret nothing lol. That was 2 t shirts, 2 visor hats (one was for the mother in law) and a keyring. Used the auto photo kiosk set up with the car and spinosauras to take about 20 pictures. The best one is me pushing hubby to the ground while I escape lol.
Did Kong, which I heard bad things about but I think it was the best of the 'mix of sets and 3d video simulator' rides. I agree with the criticism that US and IOA has too many of these similar rides, they do get a bit samey. The plan was to hit up all 3 water rides in a row, Dudley, Bilge Rat and Jurassic park. Got absolutley soaked to the skin on Dudley and of course the sun chose this time to have an hour long break. Yay for being dripping wet for an hour!
It was about 4.30 and we decided to call it a day via one more ride, Dr Dooms free fall or whatever its called. This was great fun but over so quickly! We had to queue about 10 mins for it even with express pass. I guess now is a good time for my thoughts on the express pass- it was absolutley invaluable. Did I want to queue 60 minutes for each ride? Nope. But even with express we haven't done everything in the 2 parks over 2 days. So without express I think you need 3 or 4 days. Although we did meet one couple who spend 3 and a half weeks just at Universal!
We caught the bus to Cabana Bay and we really like this hotel as well, it's just as nice as RP, just a different theme. Again I emailed ahead that we were on honeymoon, and they upgraded us to the new tower, top floor with the aforementioned stunning view of Volcano Bay. They also gave us free drinks vouchers. Headed up to the room, spent an hour glued to the view and then caught the bus to citywalk. We went to Pat O Briens for dinner. The food was alright but the ambience was wonderful. We sat outside in the courtyard full of fountains and fairylights and we had it to ourselves. It felt like a private meal in an enchanted garden, very romantic! I had cajun mac n cheese and hubs had jambalaya. We shared beginets for dessert yum. We also shared a signature hurricane which came with a souvineer glass and I got a diet coke. The meal was $64 after tip so not cheap but we enjoyed it.
We then played 18 holes of mini golf at the drive in golf, hubby beat me by 3 but he always does. Mini golf on holiday is a bit of a tradition for us. We were both knackered so back to the hotel! We have been averaging 20k steps a day.
Tomorrow is Volcano Bay, we can walk there from our room in about 3 minutes!
