From Rome to Venice and Back

Rome Forum, Travel Discussion for Rome - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
Hello,

We will be flying into Leonardo Airport from the U.S. and then staying a few days in Rome. Afterwards, we want to go to Venice and stay a few days as well. We will then need to go back to Rome to catch our flight back to the U.S. I've checked into flying and the tickets are about $200 per person (probably due to the Venice Carnivale) which is out of our budget range. I've started looking into train tickets, however, I'm not sure if there is any complexity in finding the correct train once you are there or if it is similar to an airport. We all with have 1 normal sized suitcase each. I want to know if anyone has any experience with traveling via train and the best train and train stations to use for traveling from Rome to Venice? On the trip back to Rome, we would like a train that takes us directly to the airport if possible.
