holiday on the coast with no car needed, flying to Rome.

Rome Forum, Travel Discussion for Rome - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
Hi my family of 6 (children from age 13 -23) have booked flights to Rome in July.

We plan to stay for a few days in Rome and then stay in either a villa or an apartment near the coast. We don't want to hire a car so would like to be able to do day trips, walk to restaurants enjoy a nice town to wander around & get the train from etc...

someone on trip advisor mentioned Formia-Gaita ? I have provisionaly booked accommodation in Formia as it has a train station, I'm not sure if the apartment will be too far out of centre though.

I need to have another look at where it is on the map, it says it is 100 yds from the beach ? Has anyone got any advice on locations I should consider ? We don't want to spend a fortune as would rather spend the money enjoying holiday so somewhere touristy but doesn't need to be overly so.
