Advice - Rome with kids, Colosseum Underground
Hi there We are going to Rome in August for my 40th with our children 12 & 10. As it will be hot we are staying at The Crowne Plaza outside the city which has a lovely big pool. Due to the weather, the fact my son gets tired which can lead to migraines and my husbands back I’m planning on spreading sightseeing out over a number of days. We are going for 7 nights and will have 6 days there.
I am interested in the Underground Colosseum tour. I have looked on various sights and one site was around £360 for the 4 of us for a 3.5hr tour inc Underground, 3rd tier, arena floor and tour of the forum. Has anyone done this? I think the kids will enjoy going underground. There is also an express Gladiator tour which uses a Gladiator entrance and goes on to the arena floor. I have seen we can book the underground direct but I’m concerned leaving it so late and also possibly getting it all wrong!!
This is a rough itinerary - any advice appreciated!
Friday - golf cart tour to see main sights with a guide
Lunch - hotel pool - Trastevere dinner
Saturday - colosseum and forum - hotel pool - dinner in city and main sights at night
Sunday - my 40th! Chilled morning at pool. Then probably Villa Borghese Gardens (son desperate to see turtles on the lake!) dinner or pizza making dinner
Monday - hydro mania water park - dinner Trastevere
Tuesday - Vatican Museums (some sort of guided tour - possibly Rome 4 Kids, St Peter’s, lunch... maybe Castle St Angelo (but possibly too much in one day)
Wednesday - anything above that didn’t get done ie castle st Angelo, pool, dinner or pizza making if not Sunday
Any tips or advice please??
