APD tax refund for children 12-16 years old?
I received an email today that feels like a scam, but wanted to check to see if anyone had some insight. The thing is- they do have correct ticket numbers for my daughter and son. The credit card number is an old card that I no longer have (and I don't even know if those last 4 are from an account I ever had) Here is the text of the email:
Delta Air Lines would like to take this opportunity to inform you of a recent change in the taxes on a ticket purchased by you.
In December 2014, the Chancellor of the United Kingdom announced the discontinuation of the Air Passenger Duty (APD) tax for children under the age of 12 who are traveling in Economy class when departing the United Kingdom on or after May 1, 2015. For travel on or after March 1, 2016, children 12 – 16 years of age are exempt. In response to this change, Delta will be proactively refunding the APD tax that has been paid on applicable tickets.
Ticket 0067979519750/54 has been identified as a ticket for a child under the age of 16 and therefore qualifies for a refund of the APD tax.
We processed a refund on May 15, 2018 of the APD tax as follows.
Ticket Number/Amount/Form of Payment
(they provided the correct ticket number for my daughter) / $92.80 / CA ending 8890
(correct ticket number for my son) / $92.80 / CA ending 8890
To be helpful, we have all the information needed regarding refund processing times and refund status on our website.
We appreciate your business and hope you'll continue to choose Delta, our Connection Carriers and our SkyTeam partners for your future air travel needs.
