Birthday Parties In North America and Europe

Europe Forum - Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions - City-Data Forum - www.city-data.com
I am an American who has been living and working (now retired) in Denmark since 1996.

In my American family, birthday parties with family and invited guests ended at about age 16 and then picked up again way later in life every 5-10 years.

In Denmark, birthday parties with family and invited guests don't seem to ever end, and the range from 4-8+ hours in duration, and they get bigger as the years progress due to the addition of new family members.

I find them very hard to take.

Have customs changed in the US?

Is Denmark unique among other European countries?

Elsewhere?
