Connect through LHR or EWR/JFK?
We're trying to decide on flights to Barcelona in mid-November. We've narrowed it down to BA flights connecting in London (LHR), UA at Newark (EWR) or DL at JFK.
The BA flights would both be in Terminal 5. We understand that we'd have to go through security again before boarding the flight to BCN. We have the option of a 1hr 55min connection or a 4hr 35min connection. The minimum legal time for a T5 to T5 connection is 60 minutes, so we 'should' be fine with the shorter time. 777 across the Atlantic.
The UA flights through EWR would have either a 1hr 40 min or 3hr connection.
On DL we'd have a 5hr layover at JFK. They have the 767 from JFK to BCN.
Our concerns are:
BA - strikes and connecting at LHR
UA - weather in mid-Nov and the plane across the Atlantic is a 757. The 757 is a plane we try to avoid on any flight, but particularly long ones due to the 3-3 seating in coach.
DL - weather would have the same issues as EWR. Sandy is still fresh in our memory.
We'd be booking the 'economy plus' type of seats on any airline. That is why we ruled out the AA MIA-BCN flight.
Right now we're leaning towards the BA flights as the seating looks better, but DL is running a close second. We'd like input from those more experienced than us. We've never connected at any of these airports.
