Final Itinerary for RV road trip - what do you think?
I've been working on putting this road trip together and would love to hear what you think!
Also would love some suggestions of things to do when in each area if you have ideas. =)
-This is from June 15th-July 15th, my husband and I will be traveling in a 2500 RAM and pulling our 36 ft Keystone Sprinter (travel trailer).
-We are 29 and 32 years old, just married one month ago.We love to hike and explore outdoors, we love music, and we will also be bringing our road bicycles with us.
-Starting and ending in Colorado/Denver area.
June 15/16 : camping @ Lakewood campground near Morrison, Colorado and seeing a 2-night show at Red Rocks Amphitheater
June 17- going west to Frisco, Colorado to spend time with friends and ride the bike path from Vail to Frisco and back again. Will camp in their yard this night.
June 18,19,20- Camping at Difficult Campground in Aspen
-will ride the Rio Grande Bike Trail
-will research more to find out what hikes we can do since we would love to see as many wildflowers as possible
June 21,22,23- still have to figure out where to go these dates. Trying to decide between Steamboat Springs area and Guanella pass. We are having trouble because all the campgrounds are already reserved on these dates, so I think we are going to hope for the best on a first come/first served spot or wind up in dispersed camping areas.
June 24- drive to Iowa - camp somewhere along the way- potentially Nations Bridge County Park. This is just an overnight rest on the drive to Chicago.
June 25- drive the rest of the way and arrive in Chicago by nightfall. Park the camper at my moms storage unit and spend 2 days with family. Do laundry, grocery shopping, etc.
June 26- still in Chicago
June 27-early AM- pickup camper and drive to Rothbury Michigan
June 27-July 2- camping at a music festival in Rothbury Michigan
July 2- Leave Rothbury in the am, spend the day traveling north - stopping @:
-Ludington State Park Beach
-Sleeping Bear Dunes
-Traverse City- checking out the national cherry festival!
-Arrive at Wilderness State Park
July 2 & 3-- camping at Wilderness State Park
-will ferry to Mackinac Island with our bikes and ride around and explore the island
-looking into hikes and other activities in this area
July 4- camp in Burt Lake campground -visit Harbor Springs and Petoskey for 4th of July parades, BBQ for dinner, watch fireworks displays
July 5 & 6 - Camp at AuTrain Lake in Hiawatha National Forest
-would like to visit Pictured Rock, Tahquamenon Falls, Marquette, Munising, Grand Marais areas
-hike around here - still researching but Miners Falls & Munising Falls are on the list
July 7 & 8- Camp at Union Bay Campground in the Porcupine Mountains State Park
-still looking into specific hikes and activities for this area still
July 9- drive through Duluth and then down south of Minneapolis, spend the night at Nerstrand Big Woods Campground
-potentially unhitch and drive back into Minneapolis to bike the Grand Rounds with a friend who lives in the area, or have dinner, if we arrive early enough in the afternoon and aren't exhausted.
July 10,11,12 - camp in Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota
-bike the Iron Mountain Scenic Road to see Mt. Rushmore
-drive the Needles Scenic Highway, visit Sylvan Lake and hike one of the trails from the lake
-Drive to Spearfish Canyon; hike to waterfalls on Roughlock Falls Trail and/or Little Spearfish Trail
-potentially get to Badlands to hike notch trail one afternoon, or for the night sky viewing program one night if we aren't tired and weather is good.
July 13- early AM, leave and drive south to colorado
-stop at Hot Springs and see Wooly Mammoth remains along the way
July 13&14 - Camp at Lakewood campground near Morrison, Colorado , setup camp by 4pm and rest before we go to see the first of a 2 day show at Red Rocks Amphitheater to end the adventure!
