Help a country girl visiting the Big Apple! Please!
My family is planning to visit NYC for 5 days in June as this is my 13 year old son's dream. We are from the South and the biggest city we've been to is Atlanta. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't already feeling overwhelmed at the idea of visiting such a busy and bustling place. We live in a tiny town with 4 stop lights!
We are planning to stay at Hotel de Point in Queens. I know people will want to suggest staying in the city but there just aren't any places that fit our budget. I've read there is a bus stop very close to the hotel and a subway station about 3 miles away. Would those options be feasible for getting to and from the city on a daily basis? I know parking is pretty outrageous in the city but I'm wondering if using one of the ICON parking garages wouldn't be comparable to buying Metro passes for the four of us.
Transportation is the biggest thing that has me worried. I'm used to jumping in my car, driving where I need to go and parking for free. I'm nervous about using public transportation, I admit, but my son wants the subway experience.
Any suggestions on transportation and anything in general will be greatly appreciated!
