Help me plan a December day in Brooklyn

New York City Forum, Travel Discussion for New York City - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
Will be a young couple staying at (most likely, haven’t booked yet) the William Vale in Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Dates December 14-17, trying to plan a day devoted to Brooklyn, either the Saturday or Sunday we are there.

Main goal of the day would be to check out the Christmas lights displays in Dyker heights, after sunset obviously so target time to arrive in that area would be 5:30-6:00 pm.

First things first would be getting a nice breakfast or early brunch around the hotel. Have checked out menus for a few places, Bakeri, Café Mogador, and Sweet Chick all look appealing to us. Any other recommendations or must dos in the area (we have 3 other mornings to make a breakfast decision)?

From there we always like to walk in a nice park area or even a nice neighborhood, keep in mind I come from a winter wonder land where we get 11 months of winter and one month of spring/fall/summer (I’m exaggerating but you get the point). Would some of the small inlet parks in the area suffice or McCarren Park? Or should we make our way downtown (not actually sure where downtown Brooklyn is, near the bridge area?) to hang out in Brooklyn bridge park or the promenade? Any other nice parks or monuments we should be seeing in near by areas of Brooklyn? Is the Bushwick street art in this area? I’d like to stop at the juniors for some cheesecake after this time which would be around 1-2pm I’m guessing.

From there we’ll be trying to find an inside place to hang out until sunset. Any good museums or similiar in the area? Haven’t done any research on this part so sorry for no help here from me. Appreciate any suggestion/advice

After w/e we do above, we would subway/taxi/Uber to Dyker heights to check out the displays. From anyone who has done this, how much time should we alott for this? Also looking for dinner ideas, any good eats in this area (seems pretty far out maybe less touristy?) or should we plan on making our way back towards the hotel? If you can help with dinner ideas our budget would be $100 pp for food not including drinks, and if it’s skmething we should definitely do I wouldn’t mind paying more (up to 200pp). Personally I like any and all cuisines, but the fiancé is pickier, doesn’t like Asian cuisines for example and is very particular on her Italian foods (she is Italian and seems to only like her family recipe and nothing else ever, not for lack of trying from me). Any good steakhouse she enjoys and also any farm to table or similar “modern American” eats.

Gonna end the night at a nice bar for cocktails and maybe live music (not like a dance club or anything, somewhere we can maybe sit at a table drink and conversate between songs or what have you). I know the hotel has a couple bars, but any good recos in Williamsburg (or wherever really) for either pop or r and b or even like a 90s music bar (if one exists).

Thanks in advance for any help.
