nyc in oct solo

New York City Forum, Travel Discussion for New York City - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
Hi everyone, i'm thinking to plan a holiday in nyc on october and this is going to be my first time in the us, so i might need a little (huge help).

I haven't decided the dates yet because i'm planning to watch 1 or 2 nba games so i'm waiting for the calendar to be announced.

Anyway i was thinking to be there for about a week or 10 days, but i'm not sure if stay only in nyc or catch a flight and spend a couple of days in another city or in canada, since for my understanding local flights are pretty cheap and way more cheap than the one from europe to the us.

So what do you suggest?

All the flights i've seen arrived at jfk at 7pm, would there be any problem to reach manhattan in the late evening?

I'm thinking about making this trip alone, so i'm looking at harlem to stay at in order to save some money, is it worth it or it's better to stay in one of the most "tourist-ish" neighborhoods? even more could be brooklin another good option?

These are the fist question in my mind, but i'll be glad for any other suggestion about this trip
