Octopus eggs are hatching

Cozumel - www.scubaboard.com
Hey all,

A little over a year ago one of our staff members stumbled upon a daytime octopus. She was quite friendly and unafraid of our divers. Over the past year we've been able to reliably return and say hello to her. Well, about 2 months ago something changed. She stopped greeting us at the entrance of her home and started to barricade herself inside. What we found was she had laid a clutch of eggs and was now nesting. So we've been returning to her regularly this past month to monitor the progress. Today, the eggs started to hatch. We saw a few babies scattered about. We'll be returning again this afternoon, and also tomorrow morning, and will return repeatedly until the entire nest hatches. With any luck the timing will allow us to be there as the bulk of the eggs begin to hatch.

Until we can edit together all our video, enjoy this photo.

If you are on the island today or tomorrow and want to go see this yourself, please contact me.
