Oregon/Washington road trip
We are planning a road trip this summer (from mid july) for about 26/27 nights and would welcome advice on what to see and do. First thoughts are to start and finish in Seattle. Two days there looks enough (considering whether to head over to Vancouver Island for a few days either at the start or end). Then around the Olympic peninsula, stopping off at Port Angeles. Then down the coast to Astoria and further on to Newport. Maybe a little further south before heading inland to Crater Lake and then northwards inland taking in Mt St helens , Portland inc Columbia River, and Mt Rainier at the end. We tend to try to avoid too many big drives and try to get a few nights at most locations so we can relax and see the area. We love the outdoors but also like museums, waterparks etc (have an 18 year old with us).
We did consider starting in Montana and doing Glacier NP and North Cascades but the logistics look harder. Any views on that? Does the route look reasonable? Anythging major I have missed and any recommendations for overnight stops?
As an afterthought, looking at car rental, pricess look about double what we paid for a similar length only two years ago. Any reason for that or am I missing a trick?
