Picnic in Paris with students

Paris Forum, Travel Discussion for Paris - TripAdvisor - www.tripadvisor.com
I will be traveling from the U.S. to Paris for the first time-with 7 students in tow. We are on a tour, but we have free time in the afternoon. I booked tickets for the Eiffel Tower ascent and we would like to have a picnic in the area before going up. We have been researching Rue Cler to purchase supplies, but I'm afraid the process may be complicated for students, especially since I am unfamiliar with the proper etiquette of purchasing meats and cheeses from the vendors.

I would love some feedback regarding whether or not Rue Cler is a good idea. Also, if there is anything I should know to help the students through the process of making their purchases.

Thanks!
