Retiring to Colorado from Oklahoma

Colorado Forum - Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions - City-Data Forum - www.city-data.com
Hi there! I am retired and my husband is planning on retiring in 4 years. We have lived in Oklahoma for 33 years. We currently live in a log home in a town of 3000, 45 minutes from Tulsa. We have been researching several states to move to when my husband retires and Colorado ranks at the top of the list. We have had our fill of the close-minded conservatives here and can?t wait to leave! Our preference is to live in a log cabin in a small town that has mountain views and reasonable access to a lake. We really enjoy kayaking (calm water) and outdoor activities. Our son and his family (two young daughters) would like to move with us. In addition, Oklahoma ranks among the worse in education! Our son works from home and requires high speed internet for his job. I?m assuming for him to have access to high speed internet, they will need to live closer to a larger city. We?re in the midst of researching small towns that are within a 30-45 minute trip to a larger town that would have high speed internet, shopping and reasonable rent. Our family is planning a trip in May to visit several areas that meet our needs. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
