Safe and economical lodging for visiting New York City
We're flying a family of 4, including daughters 9 and 17yrs for 4 days to NYC mid June on a weekend. I would like to stay somewhere under $150/night. Although safety is very important. Driving in from DC and will need to turn in our rental car somewhere.
Where should we lodge? In a city outside of Manhattan and take bus or subway or ferry in each day and out each night? I've heard Staten Isl, Seacaucus, Harmon Meadow is safe. Will transportation costs increase so much that we should just stay in Manhattan? Planning to see the Statue, The Rock, Central Park, a couple shows, TImes Square, 911, Little Italy, Fashion District, and maybe Coney Island for the Art Parade. Will have just spent 4 days in DC so not focusing on museums as much in NYC. Any other must sees that are different from DC sites?
One other question, should we fly out of Newark or Laguardia airport?
Thanks guys, appreciate your wisdom.
