First Time to Europe AND Solo?!?!
I'm a mid-40s single female who has traveled extensively in the US for work, so I'm comfortable traveling alone and am aware of safety precautions. However, I have never traveled solo for vacation and I'm apprehensive. With work-related trips I only had a bit of leisure time in the evenings to fill, and there were usually other business travelers in the areas where I stayed, so I didn't feel odd going to dinner and such alone.
Now I'm going to France and Germany in June (first time in Europe) solo, due to scheduling difficulties with family and friends.
I worry that I will feel lonely among all the traveling couples and families. Hopefully I will meet other solo travelers. I'm wondering if it is better to stay in larger cities and visit the charming small villages as day trips? I don't know what to expect, but I assume the small towns will be mostly couples on romantic trips, or families/groups of friends.
My itinerary so far:
-Paris> 5 days
-Colmar or Strasbourg (and surrounding wine villages)>3 days
-Germany (possibly Heidelberg or a small town in that general region)>5 days
-depart from Frankfurt (could spend a night or 2 in Frankfurt)
Any advice is appreciated!
